Captain Marvel star Brie Larson has joined the cast of Just Mercy, a book-based courtroom drama also starring Black Panther's Michael B. Jordan. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to be home to quite the impressive mix of actors, some of whom were household names prior to entering the Marvel world, and others who saw their careers skyrocket to new heights after coming aboard. In the first category sit legends like Michael Douglas, Robert Redford, and Laurence Fishburne. In the second are people like the Chrises - Evans, Hemsworth, and Pratt - who all became huge stars after donning the guises of Captain America, Thor, and Star-Lord, respectively.

After taking his first shot at the superhero genre in 2015's failed Fantastic Four, Jordan moved on to what might end up being his signature role, Adonis Johnson in Creed. Yet, that role has some major competition now from Black Panther villain Erik Killmonger, which some people believe was an even better MCU bad guy than Thanos. While Larson's onscreen MCU debut won't come until 2019's Captain Marvel, she heads into the Marvel Studios realm with momentum, having won an Oscar for 2015's Room, and starred in the well-received Kong: Skull Island.

As reported by Variety, the performers behind the MCU's Killmonger and Captain Marvel will soon work together for the first time onscreen, although it won't be for Marvel. Instead, Larson is set to join Jordan in the reality-based courtroom drama Just Mercy. Set to be directed by Destin Cretton (Short Term 12), Just Mercy is an adaptation of an acclaimed non-fiction book entitled "Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption," written by Bryan Stevenson. Production is set to begin in Atlanta sometime in September.

Jordan stars in the lead role as Stevenson, "a gifted young lawyer fighting for equal justice in a flawed legal system." Details on who exactly Larson will play in the film have yet to be revealed. Adding even more star power to the Just Mercy cast is Jamie Foxx, who's set to portray a death row inmate being defended by Jordan's character. Foxx of course also recently threw his hat into the comic book movie fray, signing on to play Spawn in Todd McFarlane's new movie version of the hellish hero.

This won't be the first time Larson has worked with director Cretton, having already appeared in his 2017 film The Glass Castle. Larson's character in that film is pictured above. Interestingly enough, starring alongside her was Woody Harrelson, who's rumored to be playing Carnage in Sony's Venom. Wow. Superhero movies have truly enveloped Hollywood. Not that that's a bad thing. That said, after engaging in super-powered battles, maybe a more mundane courtroom drama will prove to be a welcome change of pace.
